WHOIS Lookup
Look up WHOIS registration data for any domain — registrar, creation and expiry dates, nameservers, and status.
About this tool
WHOIS records show who registered a domain and when, which registrar manages it, when it expires, and its current status. Domnr reads public WHOIS/RDAP data — no login required.
Frequently asked questions
- What is WHOIS, and how does RDAP relate to it?
- WHOIS is the public directory of domain registration data — registrar, registration and expiry dates, nameservers, and status codes. Most registries now serve the same data over the newer RDAP protocol, which this tool also reads.
- Why is some WHOIS data redacted or marked private?
- Since GDPR, registrars commonly replace registrant name, email, and address with privacy-protection or "REDACTED FOR PRIVACY" placeholders. The registrar, key dates, nameservers, and status codes are still shown.
- What do status codes like clientHold or clientTransferProhibited mean?
- These are EPP status codes describing locks and states on the domain. clientTransferProhibited blocks transfers; clientHold means the domain is pulled from the zone and will not resolve until removed.
- Is this WHOIS lookup free?
- Yes — it reads public WHOIS/RDAP with no login. To be alerted when a domain’s expiry, nameservers, or status change, track it in Domnr.
